Tension is not critical for this pattern, the above figures are given as a guide only. The pattern is designed for a single skein of hand-spun super-chunky yarn. Tension is a matter of preference with yarn like this.

This is a great quick pattern for a really sumptuous skein of hand-spun super-chunky yarn. Everybody deserves to knit with something really gorgeous occasionally, but what do you do with that delectable stuff once you’ve brought it home?
I designed this scarf pattern with this situation in mind. The simple stitch pattern allows the stunning yarn to take centre stage, while the lacyness opens up the yarn to show off its construction. A lacy pattern is also a practical consideration for a yarn like this. It allows you to make the longest possible scarf out of a single ball of yarn, while ensuring the scarf is not stretched out of shape by its own weight. And of course the pattern is completely reversible.

This pattern is infinitely variable: make it wider, narrower, make it a cowl, add fringe, tassels or pompoms depending on the amount of yarn you have, and just how jazzy it is! Remember though, really beautiful yarn won’t need much help. A simple button may be all that is needed. If the scarf is slightly shorter than a regular scarf the button can be used to secure it around the neck, either shawl style - wrapped once around the neck, or cowl style - wrapped twice and secured high at the neck.
