The Hoswick beret is an all-over fair isle project worked entirely in the round. The motifs come from true-vintage fair isle charts from Shetland pattern books, and the beret shape was created after studying multiple WWII era beret patterns to give you the most historically accurate beret design!
With this design, I wanted to honor the talented knitters of the Shetland islands, and also pay tribute to the importance of fair isle knitting for the UK during the war. Fair isle knitting became an excellent method of “make do and mend” when wool and other clothing items were becoming increasingly challenging to get ahold of. Being able to use up remnants from other projects was a great way to create something new and unique without wasting any of your precious yarn!
