Knitting needles mittens: Double pointed needles 3.5 mm (mittens). If you use Magic loop, you don’t need double pointed needles but a circular needle 3.5 mm.
Knitting needles hat: Circular needles 4 mm and 3.5 mm (40 cm), or the size of needles you need to get the right gauge. Double pointed needles 4 mm.

Gauge mittens: 22 sts = 10 cm in pattern on needles 3,5 mm.
Gauge hat: 21 sts = 10 cm in pattern on needles 4 mm.

Extra: Tassel/pompom for hat (if you want one)

The size of the child’s hands and head is very individual, and it is not certain that the child fits age-appropriate sizes. It is therefore important that you measure your child’s hands and head before you start knitting.

The Imoto mitten is knitted with double rib, which means that it sits well on the hand. The idea behind the Imoto mitten was that it would sit well on the hand regardless of the type of hand you have and not slip off.
