The Indigo and Lichen Beret is based on a handspun beret that Jeannine Bakriges received as a gift. The piece begins from the middle of the knitted circle and grows outward, eventually incorporating a color pattern that frames the face. It is finished with an I-cord edging that provides a snub but comfortable fit. The color pattern, which evokes a flowering thistle, combines yarns that were nature-dyed with indigo and lichens. The spindle-spun singles were then wound into two balls and threaded through the drainage holes of two clay flowerpots to be plied.
