This pair of mittens may be the simplest in the collection as it uses the afterthought technique for the thumb, allowing you to simply knit a tube with this intricate design without worrying about any shaping. You’ll go back and add a thumb with the fingertip shaping section safely fastened off.

Gauge - 6 sts = 1 inch/2.5cm, worked in color work pattern from Chart 3, on US6/4mm needles or size needed to obtain gauge.
Size - Women’s Small
Finished Measurement - Mitten measures 7.5 inches/ 17cm around hand

Yarn - Universal Yarns Deluxe Worsted Superwash Yarn; 175 yd/160m to 100g/3.5oz. 100% superwash wool; #735 Ebony, 1 skein (MC); #728 Pulp, 1 skein (CC).
Needles - Size 6 US/4mm 32” circular needle.
Notions - Waste yarn, tapestry needle.

NOTE ON SIZING: This pattern was designed to be bold and dramatic, so therefore spans the breadth of the hand. Adding or removing a repeat would change the size of the mittens by over
2in/5cm. If you want to change the sizing, I recommend going up or down a needle size. Make a swatch to make sure you like the density of the fabric before committing to the entire project. If the fabric is too dense, try a DK weight yarn. If it isn’t dense enough, try an aran or bulky weight yarn. If you substitute yarns, try to use animal fibers over plant fibers. Plant fibers like cotton tend
to work up very differently than wool or alpaca, so your end result will be very different from the samples pictured in this collection.
