The pattern includes instructions for either the hat or the cowl.

The Isle of May is a beautiful island in the Forth (in Scotland) that is a nature reserve, filled with Puffins and other seabirds. You get there on the May Princess from Anstruther and if you’re lucky you’ll pass dolphins on the way. This pattern celebrates this magical place, the light house is the Low Light. The colourwork is stranded and there are some quite long floats to carry so be sure you’re comfortable catching floats before you start.

The pattern is one-size, to fit an adult head approx. 22” circumference. The pattern is knit with two colours of Kinross 4ply and uses one hank of each colour for either the hat or the cowl version. The sample shown is knit with Cromarty and Loch Ore. They are knit in the round using stranded knitting. There are some long floats so please make sure you are comfortable with catching floats for this design. It uses 3mm needles for the ribbing and 3.25mm for the body.

The cowl version is made by repeating the chart twice round with ribbing at the top and the bottom, it can also be made from a single 50g hank of Kinross 4ply in each of two colours. The hat uses about 25g of the foreground colour and 30g of the background colour. The cowl uses about 40g of both colours.

We also have an Edinburgh Skyline, Glasgow, the Granite City, Stonehaven, Stirling, Fife and Ayrshire and even some places south of the border!
