These socks feature twisted stitch motifs of those fearsome dragon’s claws, with a small dragon-scale motif. Knit from the top (cuff) down with a wide toe, they are sized for small, medium or large wearers.

The socks were knit from a single skein of sock-weight yarn. Choose a yarn with a tight twist to help show off all of the twisted stitches. You may also wish to check a gauge over the Front of Leg Chart before beginning, as it varies a bit (40 sts and 44 rows = 4” (10 cm)) from the basic stockinette.

This sock is written for DPNs, but may easily be converted to be worked using Magic Loop or two circulars. The foot length may be customized by adding in plain rounds of stockinette after the toe pattern is completed. The twisted stitch sections are charted only.

Dragons are featured in many stories from ancient times (like the tale of Beowulf) but also hold a prominent place in modern-day fantasies (like The Hobbit). Dragons are often associated with fire-breathing skills, as well as their hoarding abilities of riches, and their scaled, serpent-like bodies. I chose to take my inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s Jabberwock – a fearsome dragon-like creature with “jaws that bite and claws that snatch.”
