This is a patter for a knit wrap that features both a focal Estonian stitch, with a traditional Estonian Edging stitch. The Estonian focal stitch is a gathered stitch. The edging, unlike many Estonian shawls, in which you knit the edging separately, and then sew or graft it on, is knit on. It is one of the lacy and traditional Estonian edgings that is enhanced with Nupps. The combination of the two stitches makes for a very pretty and unusual lace shawl.

Skill Level: Intermediate (assuming a basic knowledge of lace knitting).

The stitches are both charted and written out line by line.

There is an OPTIONAL crocheted edging, should you like your shawls edged.

The sample was expertly pattern tested by Marie Franzosa, who can be reached at: franzosm@math.oregonstate.edu., and was knit with Mrs. Crosby’s Train Case light weight fingering yarn, in colorway, Monkey Orchid
