Are you a knitter who has never tried Tunisian (Afghan) crochet? Maybe you don’t like to crochet, or maybe you never heard of this technique. I’d like to teach you how to do it!

Tunisian (Afghan) crochet is a cross between knitting and crochet and it forms a lovely fabric that looks as if it’s been woven. It’s VERY easy and is quick and fun!!

Crocheters have their own established way of doing Tunisian (Afghan) crochet, but since I’m primarily a knitter who dabbles in crochet, I prefer to approach the craft from a knitter’s point of view. This pattern includes a “knitter’s lesson” in the Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS).

My “Sassy Sunflower Purse” is a flat construction and the only seams you’ll sew are the side seams. The sunflower embellishment is knitted separately and sewn on. If you’ve never felted before, don’t worry! I’ve included felting instructions. If you have felted knitted pieces before, you’re used to seeing the stitch definition disappear. With felted TSS, however, the fabric retains a lovely texture.

The pattern includes detailed instructions for making and felting the purse and learning the TSS. Color photos of various aspects of the purse are included to help with the construction. A link is provided for downloading a more detailed illustrated lesson in TSS.

Although it is suggested that the purse be lined and a zipper or hook/loop closure be added, I have not included instructions for that. I refer you to sewing resources for that information, or you may prefer to ask a professional to assist with this task.

As with all my designs, please feel free to contact me with any questions that may come up as you work up my design. I want you to have fun and end up with a fabulous outcome, so I’m always available to assist.

Thank you!
