The pattern has both, written and charted instructions. The shawl starts with 5 stitches in one corner and is knitted sideways on the bias to the bind-off edge. Once the stitches for the lace/cable panel are increased (green, orange and blue area, schematic view) it follows a 16-row pattern repeat (pink area, schematic few) and can be easily adapted in size. The bind-off is worked as a sideways knitted-on picot edging (purple area, schematic view) which is explained in detail in the pattern. Level: intermediate to experienced

Lacy Cables is an asymmetrical triangle shawl that is rich in texture and makes use of stitch patterns that are reversible to result in a shawl that has no wrong side. The garter stitch body and the lace/cable panel are framed on 2 sides by a picot edge and on the wingspan side by an applied 2-stitch I-cord.

I had the pleasure to work with the DK Baby Yak Wool from ULA+LIA. Pure luxury due to the softness of the baby yak fibres and the warmth yak wool gives. ULA+LIA Baby Camel or Cashmere would produce a similarly luxurious feeling! And if you prefer a lighter version, keep the needle size but go for a fingering weight (see the test knit here).

Finished measurements ( of the sample with given gauge):

  • Wingspan: 1.77m / 5’8”
  • Depth: 63cm / 2’1”

Please note: Gauge is not important for this pattern but it will influence the size, the yardage needed and the drape of the fabric. The sample knit used 390g of the DK Baby Yak wool and if your gauge is different you may need a fifth skein to achieve the same measurements.

Notions:

  • 5mm/US8 circular needle
  • Cable needle
  • 8 stitch markers (optional)
  • 400-500g of DK baby yak wool from ULA + LIA
  • tapestry needle

The pattern has been test-knitted by my wonderful test knitters with eagle eyes. It has been my pleasure to work with BessT, MrsZoom, miloco, merryJ and boisegarden. A big Thank you for the exceptional work you put in!
