Skill level: Advanced cable knit, 37 pages

Yarn weight: The cabled border can be knitted in any yarn weight, the test knits ranged from lace to worsted/Aran weight.

The border is an ADVANCED CABLE KNIT featuring closed loop cables and mitered cabled corners shaped by short rows.

Part 1 is mainly about Tahesha’s original square frame in picture 1 and how the pattern can be knit into a rectangle in picture 2.

DESIGN YOUR OWN CABLE PATTERN between the corners as Part 2 explains exactly that - how the part corresponding to chart A in pictures 1-3 can be changed completely to your liking pattern and size wise. The 44 rows of chart A are divided into 4-row blocks (picture 6) that can be arranged in many possible ways (pictures 7-9). 9 different examples are included in the pattern.

The charts and written instructions of the 4-row blocks have been singled out in Part 2 for ease of use (pictures 10, 11).

The following stitches and techniques are used in the pattern. The bolded techniques are explained tutorial-like in detail with photographs at the end of the pattern. All cabling is done on right side rows, some increases/decreases need to be worked on wrong side rows and during cabling.

  • Knit, purl and slipped stitches
  • Cables/Closed loop cables
  • Increases: kfb, 1-to-3 increase
  • Decreases: k2tog, p2tog, skpo/ssk, ssp, 5-to-1 decrease
  • Mitered corners/Japanese short rows
  • Increases/decreases of the closed loop cables

Happy knitting :)
