Lady Loki is the grown-up version of my popular Loki baby/kid sweater published a decade ago. It has the look of a classic Icelandic yoke sweater, the lopapeysa, but some modifications make it a more modern garment. I decided to use the top-down method and lift up the back of the neck with some short rows for a better fit around the shoulders. The sweater is cropped and has a positive ease, with a slight cinch at the waist. The yoke is worked in stranded knitting - note that with lopi you don’t need to catch or twist your floats since the fibers in the different strands of yarn really cling to each other. After completing the yoke you set aside the sleeve stitches on pieces of scrap yarn and cast on new stitches at the underarm. Later on after completing the body and starting the sleeves, you’ll pick up and knit stitches from the new underarm cast-on, which means no kitchenering at the underarms is needed - a joy for some I’m sure! All of this makes Lady Loki a truly seamless garment - and of course you’ll be able to try it on and adjust the length of body and sleeves as you like. Please regard the numbers given for length in the pattern below as mere suggestions… your knitting project = your rules!

Circular needles: 4.5 and 3.5 mm // US 4 and 7, or sizes needed to obtain gauge. Use your preferred length for working in the round. I like to use an 80 cm / 32” circular needle and the magic loop method for the whole sweater.
Other: darning needle for weaving in ends, a bit of scrap yarn to hold sleeve stitches, stitch markers.
