Columns of 1x1 ribbing frame garter stitch panels to give the illusion of a chain mail helm framed in steel bands. You can sew the beard on or make it detachable.

This helmet starts with a nose piece in 1x1 rib. To omit the nose piece, cast on 120 stitches and skip the nose piece section (start at Row 1).

Note: I knit in the right handed continental method where the working yarn is held in the left hand. Directional decreases (K2tog, SSK, P2tog, and SSP) may need to be reversed if you use another method.

Worsted weight yarn, 200-250 yards of grey for the helmet, and 250-500 yards for the beard. It will vary based on how long and thick you make the beard.

Size 4 needles, DPN or circular long enough for magic loop method.

Optional size 2 needles if your backward loop cast ons are very loose.
