Lourdes

A journey through a compositional transition from textured lace chevron to vertical panels of lace through the body. Lourdes is top down. After the shoulder and neck shaping, a sequence of short rows sets up and enhances the stripes of lace chevron. The body is continued flat to the hem with increases at the body sides. Due to the large repeats of the lace chevron in the upper body, there are only 4 sizes, which leads to a large variation in desired upper sleeve circumference depending on how much ease you have in the chest. Therefore, the sleeve circumferences are made-to-measure and decided upon after blocking the body; then the sides are seamed and the sleeves are picked up and worked down to cuff.

Intended to be worn with 13 to 38cm / 5 to 15” positive ease at chest. Sample shown is the size 1 on 87cm / 34.25” chest, corresponding to 14.5cm / 5.75” ease at chest. A list of measurements is provided on page 3.

Wild Atlantic Yarn Emer 4‐ply (100% non‐superwash organic Merino wool; 400 metres per 100 grams) in 3 colourways:

Heather (MC)

If using the Emer 4‐ply, you will need: (3,3)(4,4) skeins of MC, (1,1)(2,2) skeins of CC1, and 1 skein of CC2. The MC Yarn amount listed is for approximately 1/2 length to 3/4 length sleeves. If you knit longer sleeves, you will need more MC yarn.

Gauge

To find your needle sizes you need to swatch.

Stockinette: 25 sts and 31 rows to 10cm / 4” with size B needles.

Lace (Chart C): 25 sts and 38 rows to 10cm / 4” with size A needles.

Needles and Notions

The gauges were achieved with the following needle sizes. To work the pattern as written, you must swatch and use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

Size A: 3mm (US 2.5) needles of varying lengths
Size B: 3.5mm (US 4) needles of varying lengths

You will also need: cable needle for wrapping sts (a J‐shape needle works best); spare needles or interchangeable cables for holding sts; stitch markers, removable markers.
