This is the Mailen Crop Sweater, second design from People of the Earth Collection.
The first one is the Mailen T-shirt that you can find here.

Mailen is a name of Mapuche culture, in its language called Mapudungún (the language of the earth).

Mailen means princess, but it is not the same concept that is handled in occidental.

For the Mapuches, princess is synonymous with a powerful, noble and intelligent woman.

The Mapuches or people of the earth, live in southern Argentina and Chile, in the territory they call Araucanía, since before the Spanish conquest.

They are inhabitants and not owners of the land. They take care of it, protect it and are part of it. They are the guardians.

However, there are those who say they should not be there. There are those who believe they have the right to comment on their culture and customs. There are those who say they have to go.

Today, this original culture, like so many others, is being silently but brutally eliminated.

This project is in honor of them.

It’s my little grain of sand, from my little place, from my little heart.

1 skein = 100 gr / 400 m / 3 ½ oz / 435 yd.
Composition 100% Extrafine Merino, naturally hand dyed.

This Sweater has a Bottom-up construction, that begins by knitting the body from the waist to the neck and the sleeves from the cuffs to the shoulders.
Its with no ease, slack to the body, you have to look carefully at your measurements and the final measurements of the garment, especially in chest contour and arm contour to choose the correct size.

Mailen Crop Sweater es la segunda entrega de la colección People of the Earth. El primer diseño es la Mailen T-shirt que la puedes encontrar aquí.

Mailen es un nombre de origen Mapuche en su lengua que se llama Mapudungún (el habla de la tierra).

Mailen significa princesa, pero no es el mismo concepto que se maneja en occidente.

Para los Mapuches, princesa es sinónimo de mujer poderosa, noble e inteligente.

Los Mapuches o gente de la tierra, habitan en el sur de Argentina y Chile, en el territorio que ellos llaman Araucanía, desde antes de la conquista española.

Son habitantes y no dueños de la tierra. La cuidan, protegen y son parte de ella. Son sus guardianes.

Sin embargo, hay quién dice que no deben estar allí. Hay quién se cree con derecho a opinar sobre su cultura y costumbres. Hay quién dice que se tienen que ir.

Hoy en día, este pueblo originario, como tantos otros, está siendo eliminado de manera silenciosa pero brutal.

Éste proyecto es en honor a ellos.

Es mi pequeño granito de arena, desde mi pequeño lugar, desde mi pequeño corazón.

Para este diseño utilicé hilados Monokrom y Harvest Fingering de Urth Yarns.
Cada ovillo es de 100 gr / 400 m / 3 ½ oz / 435 yd.
Composición 100% Merino extrafino, tintado a mano con tintes naturales.
Colores:

• CP: 2 / 2 / 3 / 3 / 3 / 3 / 4 / 4 / 5 / 5 ovillos Harvest Fingering: Negro Thuja
• CC: 1 ovillo de Monokrom Fingering Púrpura 3054

Herramientas:
Agujas circulares de punto 3.5 mm / US5 y 2.75 mm / US2
Si vas a utilizar circulares, te recomiendo un cable de al menos 80 cm.

Cuenta vueltas (opcional pero muy recomendable)

Este Sweater tiene una construcción Bottom-up, es decir que se comienza tejiendo el cuerpo desde la cintura hacia la siza y las mangas desde los puños hacia los hombros.
Su holgura es al cuerpo, tienes que mirar bien tus medidas y las medidas finales de la prenda, sobretodo en contorno de pecha y contorno de brazos para escoger la talla correcta.
Se teje de manera circular, por lo que siempre tejemos con el LD de la labor mirando hacia nosotros y colocando 1 marcador en el inicio de vuelta, para deslizarlo cada vez que cumplimos una vuelta completa.
