The Manticore is a mythical creature with the body of a lion,
the face of a man, and the tail of a scorpion. It is a fearful
critter whose venom kills quickly and for which there is no
antidote. It is sometimes reported that the Manticore will
sing to its victims, as they become paralyzed with its poison,
before he eats them whole—clothes, shoes, jewelry, and all.

Inspired by this monster, I created these socks to show off the
distinguishing features, which deftly play with both solid and
multicolored yarn. The scorpion tail whips up the front of
the sock, while the lion’s mane graces the back of the leg.
Both elements are a variation of the same easy lace pattern
and are quickly memorized.
