Mei Ling is a tiny 2.5 inch open-mouth panda that you can crochet with size 12 perle cotton and a size 12 crochet hook in colors of your choice. You can make her larger or smaller by changing the size of the thread and hook that you use to crochet her.

The rose and ivory panda in the photos was made from size 12 perle cotton and a size 12 hook, while the brown and sand panda was crocheted from punch thread with a size 10 hook. He is 3.25 inches tall.

Mei Ling’s head is cotter-pin/disk jointed, and her limbs are thread jointed. Instructions are included for jointing, attaching the eyes, shading the eye patches (I used water color pencils for shading, and making a cute little tutu for Mei Ling to wear. The tutu has a few seed beads sewn onto the waist band, and ties in the back with very narrow ribbon.

Materials and Supplies Needed:

• Size 12 perle cotton – dark and light (black and white for a traditional panda; I used dusty rose and ivory for the model) for the panda, dark or medium pink for the tongue, and dark rose for the tutu
• Size 12 (1mm) hook
• Two 1-mm black eye beads
• Two ¼- inch discs and one ¾“ cotter pin
• Fiberfill for stuffing
• Stainless steel shot filling (optional)
• Embroidery floss in color of choice for features (I used charcoal gray)
• Black nylon or other strong thread for attaching eyes
• Upholstery or other strong thread for jointing limbs, in color to match bear
• Sewing Needles: 2-1/2-inch darner; beading
• Small hemostat, dowel, long tweezers, or other long, narrow tool for stuffing
• Small needle-nose pliers for turning cotter pin
• Water Color Pencils, such as Prismacolor, in color to match (I used clay rose for the eye patches and blush pink for the cheeks.)
• Two 4-inch lengths of 1/16th inch-wide ribbon to match tutu
• About 30 opalescent or ivory seed beads or tiny pearls
• 4 green seed beads
