Named after Meliae, ancient Greek nymphs of the ash tree, this lace scarf is an enchanting accessory for casual and fancy wear.

Light and lovely. A delicate leaf pattern trips along one side of the scarf border, and a pretty eyelet motif dances across the other. Meliae’s flattering crescent shape enables the scarf to drape lightly, while the versatile length provides warmth in cooler clime.

Meliae comes in two lengths; short and long. Choose the length that accentuates your personal style. Worn as a classic simple scarf, or wrapped into a dramatic layered look, Meliae makes an exquisite statement.

Pattern & construction notes:

This pattern includes both written and charted instructions for the short and long scarf lengths.

Both the short and long sample Meliae scarves were knit with a single strand of fingering weight yarn.

Meliae is knit end to end as one piece. The width of the scarf body increases toward the middle, then decreases as it approaches the opposite end. No additional finishing is required, beyond weaving ends and blocking. Hurrah!

Finished short size (Regia 4 Fach Haltbar, after blocking) : approx. 23cm (9”) x 175.5cm (69”)
Finished long size (Fortissima Colori Socka Color, after blocking): approx. 21.5cm (8.5”) x 243cm (96”)

Meliae has received professional technical editing by KTLV, and been generously test knit by Lumberjill, shhshh, ItalChe, echinamax, sanita60, deserat, and mayalily.

Skill level:

Meliae is suitable for the intrepid novice lace knitter. If you can knit and purl, increase, and decrease, slip stitches and execute yarn overs, then Meliae could be your next lovely adventure!
