Merezhka is a crocheted top which takes its name from a Ukrainian traditional embroidery stitch (hem-stitch). This stitch is worked by pulling out strands of thread which are used to create lacy lines in the fabric (merezhki).

A hexagon motif and its variations (partial and pentagon motifs) are used in this design to shape the garment without breaking the spectacular geometric pattern.

The top features a V-neckline, narrow 3/4 sleeves, and a long, intentionally over-sized body.

Materials

  • Yarn: Malabrigo Lace, 100% merino, 470yd (430m) per 50g skein, 4 skeins total
  • Hook: US B (2.25mm)
  • Yarn needle to sew/weave in ends

Motif and Finished Sizes

Only one motif layout is provided for all the sizes. Change the size of the motifs by using thinner/thicker yarn or smaller/larger hook size to make your top smaller or larger. If between sizes, opt for the larger size to achieve a relaxed fit as pictured above.

  • S: bust 36’’ (91cm), motif size 6’’ (15cm)
  • M: bust 38’’ (96.5cm), motif size 6½’’ (16.5cm)
