The mesh stitch is inspired by fishing nets and the colors by the ocean - soft, cozy and VERY stretchy with a proper fishy tail shaped in rib pattern.

The pattern includes instructions for a sweet little Baby Mermaid Top with Scallop Shells which ties around the back and neck halterneck style. A little pearl at the front adds a touch of glamour essential for every little Mermaid.

The snuggle blanket is knitted in the round so that there are no seams and NO sewing involved except for the joining the headband.

The tail is worked with 2 strands of US fingering (UK 4ply) held together. This gives it a luxurious feel and offers the opportunity for a two-tone effect - use one strand darker and one lighter of the same colour, or two different colours if you prefer. It can also be made with a single strand of worsted so long as you check your gauge and adjust your needle size if necessary.

The pattern is detailed (15 pages) and is fun to work - a satisfying knitting project for intermediate knitters who are used to knitting in the round and are able to work on circular and double pointed needles. If you’ve followed basic knitting patterns before and have already tried these techniques, this pattern will be simple and a great way to improve your skills. Each step of the design is explained carefully and there are color photos throughout to guide you through the process.
