Knitting grandmothers around the world have responded to the fond wishes of little mermaid lovers, and asked me to resize my mermaid newborn photo prop pattern, so here it is!

This version may be knitted in-the-round, just like the original style. But, it also has a lap blanket version included, with garter edging along the top and sides, tapering to the bottom with the fin attached. How fun it will be for little girls (and bigger ones!) to poke their toes down in this and flap their fin!

Sizes included:
2 to 3 years
4 to 5 years
6 to 7 years
8 to 11 years
12 to 14 years
14 to 16 years

Now also available as the Ladies Mermaid Tail Lapghan Cocoon Blanket. It is a separate pattern here on Ravelry, in ladies small, medium, large, XL and XXL.

Two strands of worsted or aran yarn are held together. This gives more color possibilities than bulky yarn, but bulky or chunky does also works pretty well for this pattern with the same needle, if it results in the same gauge. I like to use a lighter and a darker of the same color together, for a nice variegated effect, as seen in the teal one.

You will need a 29-inch (74 cm) long circular needle, if you are going to make the seamless version, but a longer one is fine if you are making the back-and-forth lap blanket. Smaller sizes would also fit onto a 16-inch long circular, I think. Dpn’s are only needed for the seamless one.
