Suppose you want to proclaim to one and all that you are wearing a knitted hat of moderate to severe awesomeness, but you don’t want to people to start examining your head to close. You want to knit a knit pattern. Knitception some might call it, I prefer to think of it as a metaknit.

This pattern uses two strands of worsted (or close enough) yarn twined sinuously about each other to create striking pattern. With their powers combined, they become a stockinette-esque pattern larger than themselves.

Shown in Madelinetosh tosh Vintage (Smokestack) and Madelinetosh DK Twist (Sweetheart), but any worsted weight yarn should work. As Sweetheart is not available commercially, a similar color is Lepidoptera,

The colorwork portion is charted.

9/4: An updated version of the PDF has been uploaded to Ravelry. The CO should say 120 sts, not 112, and some of the crown shaping has been edited to be less confusing.
