’Modern Mariner’ is a seamless square blanket. It has bright sailor stripes and a ribbed border. I knit it for a special baby boy in my life -- and I hope it brings a jaunty nautical spirit to your life, too!

You cast on at the bottom of the blanket. Knit upwards through the bottom border, middle stripes, and top border. Pick up stitches along the side for the side borders. The pattern has photo tutorials to show exactly how you change colors for the stripes and how you pick up the stitches along the side.

The blanket takes a total of 3 skeins of worsted-weight Spud & Chloe sweater. That’s one skein in each of three colors: Firecracker (deep red-orange), Ice Cream (soft cream color), and Moonlight (rich teal blue). It uses almost the entire skein of each, with no yarn left for swatching.

The ribbing is knit on size 7 needles, and the striped body is knit on size 8 needles. A very small-gauge circular needle (such as a sock needle) is helpful for picking up stitches, though it’s not required.

This is a super fun and handy blanket!
