Take advantage of today’s lovely variegated yarns to make a simple fair isle design look complex! This hat uses just two colors - either a solid and a variegated, or two contrasting solids. The hat uses less than a skein of each color, and with Rios, you can probably get two hats out of two skeins by reversing the main and contrast colors on each.

The main design is charted. Skills needed are knitting in the round, stranded knitting, understanding how to read a chart, and working decreases.

Please check your gauge! As designed, this hat is 20” around, which stretches comfortably to fit a 22” head. To adjust your size, use smaller needles for a smaller finished size, or larger needles for a roomier hat. Malabrigo Rios is what I would consider a “light” worsted, so using a different yarn will also affect your gauge. Better to know ahead of time what size hat you’ll end up with… please swatch.
