A muse is a force that has the ability to excite our passion and call forth our creative spirit…and that was how my journey with the Muse Shawl began. The light, lavender, merino yarn sang to my heart, and whispered softly of meandering lace. The pretty lace edging absorbed my mind and the comforting, rhythmical steadiness of Garter stitch created a dream-space for further musings.

This classical, semi-circular, lace shawl in fingering yarn, rests naturally on shoulders and hugs the body with its beautiful drape. Light yet warm, it’s a perfect accessory for any time of the year.

The main body of the Muse Shawl is knit top down beginning with an Icord Tab and is knit almost entirely in Garter stitch. It features pretty eyelet rows that incorporate regular increases and which is echoed in the border in this Garter stitch variation of the traditional Old Shale Stitch. Easily memorized, the soft undulating flows begin the lace component and ends with an attractive and elegant lacy Knitted-on Edge.

Pattern support is given through charts, written instructions and videos. YouTube tutorials are available for the following techniques: Provisional Cast-on, Icord Tab, Cable Cast-on and the Knitted-on Edge, making this project a knitting adventure full of supportive learning and information.

YARN: Meterage/yardage in Fingering weight yarn: 720m/789yds using gauge.
1 x 200g ball of Bendigo Woollen Mill Luxury 4ply in Iris Mist (100% Merino Wool) 720m/789yds. Used exactly 1 ball.

Yarn Recommendation: 2 x 100g ball of Bendigo Woollen Mill Transitional Sock Yarn in Purple/Green Multl, 4ply, (70% Wool 30% Nylon). 400m/437yds per 100g.

Yardage will vary with gauge: the range is from 615m to 780m

NOTIONS: Crochet hook and 18”/45cm of scrap yarn for Provisional Cast-on, 12 stitch markers, 1 removable stitch marker, darning needle to weave in loose ends.

GAUGE: Not critical but differences will affect yardage and size. After blocking:
Garter: 16 sts x 33 rows = 10cm/4”
Shale Border: I x 24 st pattern repeat is 15.25cm/6” long. Depth: 3.25cm/1.25”

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Wingspan:180cm/70” long. Depth: 70cm/27.5”
