Naia the Mermaid
This mermaid is knitted in the round, starting at the top of her head and working all in one piece down to the bottom of her tail seamlessly. The fins are picked up and knit, and the hair is sewn on separately. She has a bunch of sweet little details that make her extra special, including a belly button and little thumbs!
Stitches the pattern call for are: K2tog, SSK, M1L, M1R, PSSO, and a small and basic amount of crochet, namely chain stitch. I can’t crochet at all, but I can do chain stitch all day long. Trust me knitters-- so can you! I included pictures of all the major steps so everyone can follow along easily. This pattern is 11 pages, it’s thoroughly and clearly written, and I’m more than happy to give you a hand if you get stuck!
I used DK (body) and worsted weight (tail) yarn on this particular mermaid, and she measures 13 inches long, by 6.5 inches across at the widest point.
I had so much fun designing this pattern, I wholeheartedly hope you enjoy knitting her, and love her even more once she’s all finished! I like to knit little sidekicks for my mermaids, so if you want a mini octopus to go with her you can find the pattern here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/octopus-keychain-2. Simply leave off the keychain and viola! The perfectly sized mini octo friend for your whimsical ocean maiden!
