This design was originally presented as a Mystery Knit Along in the I Make Mittens group. The sections of the design were presented as clues and were published weekly, beginning May 1, 2021. So the pattern is set up in 5 parts, with an Introduction and 5 individual “clues”, though you now get them all at once when you purchase the pattern!

Since my attention tends to be focused on growing things at this time of year, I decided to offer a pattern for this Mystery Knit Along with a garden theme. It also has a bit of history, for the pattern is based on one of my earliest designs (~1990), one that I have long planned to rework and add to my collection.
The original name for the design was “Granny’s Flower Garden”. It was sold as a kit with pattern and yarn and included 8 colors—lots of green, white to represent a picket fence, and several contrast colors for the flowers.
In this iteration, one of the options includes charts for a very similar colorwork pattern (Option #1), but for those of you not that fond of green, I include four other optional charts—pinks, blues, shades of grey, and shades of grey plus contrasts. And of course, choosing your own palette is always encouraged, so you will find a recipe to follow included with all the other details!
