The subtle shades of these beautiful self-striping yarns reminded me of winter, when the landscape is monochromatic with just a few touches of blues and browns. I used these hazy shades of winter as an inspiration for this design.

To let the interplay of the colors shine and show off the subtle color transitions, I chose a simple but interesting stitch pattern. The stitches create a deep, lofty texture with interest on both sides, making the most of this soft handspun-like yarn.

The easy-to-work stitch pattern itself is extremely versatile. It is just as effective if worked in a single color or in as many different colors as desired; for example, the original Nebel sample for the Ply magazine used the lightest and the darkest ends of a single gradient skein.
