These quite traditional Fair Isle mittens remind me of the last gasp of spectacular sunsets, as the sun flares red against the darkening sky. I have never really been able to capture the colours in a photograph, so maybe these mittens are my attempt to create a record in stitches.

Worked from the cuff up, there’s no need to change needle size thanks to a swift increase after the ribbing. From there, you’ll be changing colours frequently, so weaving and joining your ends as you go is worth the effort to minimize finishing later.

These are worked up in our hand-dyed house brand Bon Tricot in Jolly DK, a custom spun base of BFL with a hint of Gotland, which blooms beautifully when blocked.
