Viel Spass beim Nachstricken.

I designed the original shawl during a sanatorium stay on the German isle of Norderney, inspired by waves, sand and the ocean.

Easy-to-follow row-by-row description.
German short row technique explained.
Two different possibilities for the ending (easy “slope”) or slightly more complicated “fanned out” tip)

Materials:
300 gr (4 oz) 10-ply (gradient) Schoppel
100 gr (4 oz) 5 ply (Unisono) Zitron

or:
100 gr (3.5 oz) 4-ply solid (color flow) Ferner sock yarn
100 gr (3.5 oz) 4-ply solid (turquoise) colored sock yarn
100 gr (3.5 oz) 4-ply solid (petrol) colored sock yarn
50 gr (1.75 oz) 4-ply solid (black) sock yarn for the rests
Safety pins: 8 silver colored ones and one differently colored
Circular needle 3 mm (between US 2 and 3), at least 120 cm (48 inches) long
Total weight of finished shawlette: 130 grams (4.6 oz)

Good pattern for very long color repeats (as in Kauni or Aade long) - in this case, use only 2 colors: long repeat yarn for MC and solid for rests.

NEW! Especially for you: The third part:
An additional bonus pattern has now been added to the Norderney shawlette pattern - a ruana made from two identical Norderney shawlettes.

The ruana instructions are on pages 11 to 16 of the new PDF. Shawlette instructions (pages 1 to 10) stay the same and don’t have to be printed again - no corrections to the original pattern, just more pages for the additional instructions to make the ruana-style tunic.

The tunic will fit a European size Größe 36 – 44 (US Ladies 6 to 14). You will be knitting two of the same shawls and seaming them together in the center (pictures included at the end of the pattern). Hidden snap closures may be added for two different wearing options. For even more wearing options, crocheted cords or knitted i-cord may be worked from the remnants of the shawl yarn and decorated with beads.
For a nice flow and pliability, the ruana is not seamed under the arms. Wear it any way you like!

Materials for the tunic:
I used from 100 Farbspiele, 2 skeins in colorway ,,Am Lagerfeuer“ (“at the campfire”), 4ply, 250 g (8.8.oz), 900 m (985 yards) each.
Circular knitting needle 3.5 mm (US4), about 120 cm (48 inches) long.
I started one of the skeins from the outside and one from the inside, thus eliminating the need for an additional rest yarn. I had leftovers of about 50–60 grams from each of the two 250 g skeins.
