This classic colourwork hat is worked without ever holding more than one yarn at a time. Using slipped stitches instead of stranding, this complex- looking hat can be made even by new knitters. It’s a great way to introduce yourself to sticky Shetland yarns and traditional peerie patterns before making the leap to full Fair Isle. Obviously named for its lack of stranding, it’s also a call out to a great instrumental tune by Ratatat.

To get a similar effect with different colours, choose two hues that are opposite each other on the colour wheel, then choose 2 close shades of each. For your main colour, choose a neutral with same temperature as your contrast colours. Here a warm brownish white is matched with hot tones of pink, purple and mustard.
