Someone recently mentioned to me that the winters in Western NY are really cold and can be seriously brutal. I thought, “Well, yeah. They’re no picnic in Upstate NY either.” Then I thought of back home in Chicago & how we’re not called the Windy City for no reason. All my aunts and cousins are constantly complaining that Northern WI is just the coldest place on earth, or so it feels, in February. My uncle in Red Wing, MN is certain that the wind never stops howling for 3 months straight when the weather ‘turns’. AND Aunt Birdie in Erie, PA says we’re all just complainers, come feel the ‘breeze’ off of the lake in late January and we’ll figure out what cold really is…

So, long story longer, I wanted to come up with something very simple, very unisex, and very fast to make so that I could start sending them out as winter gifts to my kith and kin. Here’s my super-fast and super-easy convertible anti-winter-wind device for everyone.

Hoping your winter is smooth and mild, but, just in case, make a couple to keep on hand for when the winds are howling and your breath freezes in your throat… :)

Any super-bulky yarn and a P hook will work for this. Working with a tripled strand of worsted weight yarn should get you good results also and be a nice opportunity to play with color combinations.
