Olde School is the 3rd pattern in my New England Village eBook.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner

Children in early and rural America were educated in small wooden buildings with just one room that have come to be known as “one-room schoolhouses.” Children of all ages attended the same school studying different subjects at different levels and were taught by a single teacher, often a young woman. Homemade (red) paint containing iron oxide was a popular wood preservative used in New England during the 1800’s. The cleaning cloth is worked in mosaic garter stitch, just one strand of color works every two rows. Gauge and dimensions are provided in a light worsted weight yarn. Choose colors that contrast well. Try your camera’s “black & white” setting to look at your yarns in grayscale and check the contrast between your selection(s). The pattern provides full written instructions with (optional) positive and negative charts for making useful household linens and gifts!
