The Ottesong scarf features diamonds, hearts, and little leaves. The first border is worked then set aside, then the second border and the scarf length are knitted. Then the live stitches of the first border are grafted to the live stitches of the scarf length. Afterwards, stitches are picked up from the provisional cast on for the crochet chain edging.

Links are provided to the provisional cast on technique used in the pattern (crochet chain method), as well as to 2 techniques to work nupps. There are photo tutorials in the pattern for the vikkel braid and crochet chain edging.

The pattern has been test-knitted.

This scarf is part of my series Dreams of Norway. Its name was inspired by the Norwegian folksong “Guro rid til Ottesong.” Guro Heddelid was a renowned beauty in medieval Telemark and in this song she rides to matins (ottesong). Many men fought for her favour and her suitors battled each other for her hand in marriage. She is said to have died in 1349 during the Black Death.
