I was knitting a cabled swatch while also trying to watch TrueBlood, a most distracting show, and accidentally knitted too many rows between cables, because Eric Northman. The result was pretty cool looking, so I thought, eh, let’s go with it! So I took it even further and made cables that spread out more and more as the hat gets taller, then sort of disappear into the crown. At first, you’re like, ugh, gosh, I’m cabling ALL THE TIME, but then as you make progress on the hat, it seems to fly by, because there are lots of plain knit rounds between cable rounds. The hat is finished with pompom tassels, because a hat is simply not a hat without a pompom. This hat is quick to knit, making it great if you, say, forgot to get your sister a Christmas gift, and Christmas is 5 days away.

Using only two balls of DK weight yarn, it’s economical and quick to knit. This hat would be a great way to learn cables, since you have to repeat the cable so many times.

Sizes available are adult S/M and M/L. The smaller size is ideal for teenagers and people with smaller heads, like women. The larger size is better for men and larger-headed women. For reference, the model is wearing the larger size, and has a 22” head.
