PDF knitting pattern for a pair of fingerless mitts/gloves with a Barn Owl’s face and part body on the front of each mitt. The palms of the mitts are plain.

The main yarn used for the mitts in the photograph is Rowan Fine Tweed in Settle, which is an aubergine/brown mix with tweedy flecks in rust, purple and orchid and the yarn is equivalent to 4ply weight. The owl’s face and body is in plain coffee, cream, brown, rust, black and dark grey 4ply wool.

The gloves used just less than 25gm of Fine Tweed. This wool goes a long way, so if using any other 4ply yarn - wool, cashmere or cotton - slightly more will be needed (approximately 30-40gm of the main colour).

The motif is knitted using the intarsia method, but the mitts could be knitted in plain stocking stitch and the owl added afterwards using duplicate stitch/Swiss darning.

Charts for both left and right mitt are included, together with typed knitting instructions.

The approximate measurements for the mitts are: 3.5” wide (unstretched and not counting the thumb), 5” long from top of rib to cast-off edge and 1.5” long rib. The mitts could be made slightly larger or smaller by altering the size of the needles
