New stitch video for 2012: How to Crochet the Spiky Puff Stitch.
.
Thanks so much to -:Sharon:- for her feedback on this pattern and for alerting me to the fact that I never added this design to Ravelry back when I uploaded it to my new website! I’ve incorporated her advice, and the revised version of this pattern is now available both here and at my website.

After using this pattern you will know (if you didn’t already), a few handy basics for a crochet jeweler’s toolbox:

  • How to crochet your own metal-free bracelet clasp
  • How to work a Foundation Single Crochet (a.k.a “chainless foundation” or “base single crochet”)
  • A way to crochet a cluster of long stitches, the Spiky Puff.

Most medium weight yarns (“worsted weight”) are great! Pattern includes space to plan your color decisions.
The smaller dark pink one that you see pictured at left was an experiment to see how it looks with sport weight yarn for a belt or headband. This pattern edition does not include information about the sport weight version, but the pattern is mostly the same, just use a smaller crochet hook, and extend the clasp loops and buttons for fit. (Please see my project page “2-Color Pavo Cuff variations” for more on this variation.)

Skill Level: Intermediate stitches (Spiky Puffs & Clones Knot; the latter can be substituted with a bobble, or bead)

Finished Dimensions
Including clasp, Palmetto Cuff is 7.5 inches/19 cm long. Instructions for extending the length to an 8 inch/21cm bracelet are included in Row 6.
