Parley’s Canyon is the winding mountain pass that leads from Salt Lake City up to the mining-turned-ski town of Park City, Utah — home of the Sundance Film Festival, the alpine events of the 2002 Winter Olympics, and the local yarn store Wasatch & Wool. This namesake cowl, designed for a multicolored DK-weight Jujubees Six Pack from Marianated Yarns, offers three different variations for hitting the knitting slopes.

Cowl A (last four pics at left) is the “bunny hill” — simple ribbing provides a relaxing knit. Cowl B (middle four pics at left) is the “blue square” — a touch of cabling adds interest. Cowl C (top four pics at left) is the “mogul run” — slipped stitches jump about to create an unusual motif. All cowls have gentle shaping in the base stripe to help them sit well around the neck.

This pattern contains both fully charted and written instructions.

Recommended Yarn:
Marianated Yarns Jujubees Six Pack set — 100% superwash merino — 300 yds (274 m) total per 120 g. Shown in colorways Dragon Scales (Cowl A), Retail Therapy (Cowl B), and Daquiri (Cowl C). Cowl A uses the set in its entirely, while Cowls B & C use most of it.

Sizing:
Cowl A — 27” (69 cm) around base and 24” (61 cm) around body, 14.5” (37 cm) high
Cowl B — 26” (66 cm) around base and 22” (56 cm) around body, 12.5” (32 cm) high
Cowl C — 26” (66 cm) around base and 22” (56 cm) around body, 12” (30.5 cm) high

Gauges, Strongly Blocked:
Cowl A — 24.5 sts and 29 rows to 4” (10 cm) in 4 x 2 ribbing.
Cowl B — 26 sts and 30 rows to 4” (10 cm) in cable and rib pattern.
Cowl C — 26 sts and 32 rows to 4” (10 cm) in slipped-stitch cable pattern.

PLEASE NOTE: Changes in gauge will affect finished size, look of motifs, and amount of yarn used. To meet these dimensions, be sure to use needle size that gives gauge.

Needles:
US 5 circular needles, 16” and 24” lengths (longer needle is used for base stripe, but entire cowl can be knit on 16” needle if desired).

Other Materials:
Stitch markers, tapestry needle.
