I’m a messy person with a lot of random tools laying around my home. Most of the time I need to have them at hand, but every now and then they need to be out of sight. Piilo means a hiding place in Finnish, and the basket is designed for that purpose: the edge of the basket is curved, so you can’t see everything inside. Piilo will sit in your bookself quietly, looking all cute and innocent while you drink coffee with your parents who admire your talents in keeping the home organized.

Sizing: The sample basket measures approximately 23,5 cm (9 1/4 inches) accross, and is 11,5 cm (4 ½ inches) high. Size may vary according to your material and gauge.

Materials: 500 g (~178 m/194 yards) super bulky cotton ribbon yarn (1 kg = 355m/388 yards), or t-shirt yarn.
The sample used Miniontelokude (colorway 16, light gray) by Kauhavan Kangas-Aitta (1 kg = ~355m/388 yds), knitted double. The prototype weighs 392 g (~139 m/152 yds).
Two 25 mm (1 inch) buttons, thread for sewing.

You could also make your own t-shirt yarn (reserve approximately 2-3 XL t-shirts), use denim (approximately two pairs of old jeans), knit bulky yarns held together or try different ropes.

Skill level: Advanced beginner. The basket is shaped using German short rows. This is a written pattern.
