This sock pattern was inspired by
our first trip to the Pacific Northwest.

I wanted to create a design that would reflect the stunning scenery we saw and experienced on our trip. The color way (hand dyed by WoolWorks, etc.) seems to change depending on the lighting. It’s full of blues, greens, grays and off whites. Perfect colors for the mountains, waterfalls, rocks, rivers and beaches of the Pacific Northwest. If you look closely, there are even a few flecks of pinky red throughout, reminding me of the Burdoin Wildfire that broke out around our visit to Mt Hood.

I began designing and knitting them on the plane ride home. The Pacific Northwest (PNW) Mountain Tides Sock pattern features double moss stitch mountains on the toes and just above the heels (to remind me of all the mountains and the rocky coastline in the areas of Oregon and Washington) as well as sand cables (to embody the immense amount of waterfalls we visited in the Columbia River Gorge, the beach, current and tides of the ocean and rivers we spent time in and around while there). They’re knit toe up and finish with a broken, twisted rib cuff to bring the rocky scenery from the toes up into the top of the socks.
