I have always been fascinated by the platypus and it’s exception to the rule that all mammals have live young. They actually carry the eggs in their body for a few weeks before laying them. The eggs then hatch about 10 days later which is a good deal less time than a chicken. They take about a month.
Portia was a product of my fascination with the platypus and love of babies. I am so happy with her sweet motherly demeanor.
Her babies are 2 inches long, 1 inch wide and 1 inch tall. She measures in at 9 inches long, 5 inches wide and 3 inches tall.
She has been a source of delight for the children as they first find the eggs inside her belly and then reveal the babies inside the eggs. This is a wonderful little project that uses simple crochet skills that are put together just right
This pattern has many photographs to help with construction and assembly.
