P.D. Smith, in his book, City: A Guidebook for the Urban Age, mentions “the Street Observation Science Society, founded in 1986, whose objective was to document what remained of old Tokyo before it disappeared under a tide of anonymous concrete and steel. Their symbol was the sole of a shoe on which was drawn an all-seeing eye.” This description inspired these socks, knitted for a friend undergoing chemo and radiation. I thought they might be a fun way to help see her through this journey which proceeds at a walking pace over sometimes rugged terrain.

This pattern consists of a series of charts which I used to make the socks pictured. It is not a complete pattern. The charts are provided for the knitter to incorporate any or all of these charts into a favorite general sock recipe (or any project other than socks).

The charts are not directional so they can be used for either toe up or top down socks.
