I have long been an admirer of the work of the Pre-Raphaelites and this latest illusion knit makes use of the Proserpine painting by Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
The completed illusion knit was knitted in DK yarn using 3mm needles. This has given a firm fabric that measures 66cm (26”) wide and 133cm (52”) high. Thicker needles, bulkier yarn or looser knitting will give a finished size that may be significantly larger than my version.
I used approximately 800 metres (880 yards) DK in each of Lemon and Midnight.
The photos, and animation, show the knitting from several different angles, and in different lighting conditions. Photos do not convey the wow factor when the piece is seen in real-life.
September 2013 Update
The pattern now includes an extra chart intended for tablet users but others may find it helpful. You can view 20 ridges at a time and always be able to see the numbers across the bottom of the chart. Never lose your place again!
