The yarn and needle size are suggestions.The result may vary depending on which fruit size you want to protect. My pumpkin dress is a bit wide for a standard apple size, felting may also be an option.
You may also knit (or crochet) stockinette stitch with any yarn and any button, it doesn’t need to be pumpkin-like.
