Mosaic & Lace Knits is an introduction to a technique that I have been developing over several years that brings colorwork into lace using slip stitches. Handling only one strand of yarn at a time, no carrying along the row or stranding, allows development of colorwork patterns without any floats running behind your work and obscuring your lace.

Starting off a hat at the crown opens up a whole world of options when it comes to design. By careful control of the interplay of increases and mosaic lace, this pattern grows a beautiful counterpane from the top down. At that point, you can choose if you want a slouchy or fitted cap and work the appropriate number of repeats.

Upon deciding to knit both versions as samples, I also thought it would be good fun to swap the colors to demonstrate how drastically such a change affects the final product.

If you would like to see this pattern in action watch the pattern tour video on my YouTube channel Watch Barbara Knit.

The samples were knit in the colors Deep Olive and Latte
