Although this uses a simple single crochet throughout, you’ll make this blanket thick and puffy by working with two strands held together and working in the back loops only.

Hooks do vary and you may find that your project will improve by going up one size to an L hook. I created this pattern and tested it using Boye hooks; folks who used that brand as well found everything went as noted. However, crocheters who used the same size but in a Susan Bates brand hook found that the work was too tight and increased their hook size to an L, and were more comfortable using that size.

This pattern was created for the cats at the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society. The blankets are used for bedding in the cages and go home with the cats to their new homes. Their scent on the blankets provides comfort to the cats and helps them adjust.
