05/13/2016 Someone inquired about adjustments for a looser fitting version, or how to add on to the CO count for tight knitters. The pattern is currently for 1 CO. I have not knitted a version with more or less CO yet. If you want to increase or decrease the CO count, you would have to do so by 18 stitches to stay in pattern. I will knit one of these versions soon and update the pattern PDF to reflect this option.
I have knitted 8 of them on a 14 inch cable with 5 inch needles attached. I have no issues with joining or knitting in the round on this needle. My husband however knits much tighter than me and he was unable to join when using this cable and needle length. He had to switch to 4 inch needles on the 14 inch cable. If you knit tighter, and have problems joining on a 24” circular, you may want to add 18 stitches to the CO simply to get yours to fit like the original does.

Rex Pilleus is a tuque knitted in fingering/sock yarn, using 2 strands held together at one time. Knitting with 2 strands at a time is super easy, don’t be afraid to try it!

Rex Pilleus creates a one-size fits all, reversible tuque, providing 2 different, yet similar looks. The instructions provide a method for measuring for different lengths and guidance for using more than one color in a variety of ways.

The PDF does not dictate specifically where or when to change colors, but leaves that up to your own tastes and personal creative nature to add your own touch to the piece.

My goal was a beanie that suited both genders equally, knitted up quickly, but had more design detail beyond plain ribbing and stockinette. It is lightweight, for a longer wearable season. Using 2 strands of yarn retains the lightness of fingering weight, but allows for use of larger needles, saving time.

This is my first original pattern. If you have any questions, corrections, or comments about the pattern, I welcome you to message me on Ravelry or to email me directly. Following the pattern in the PDF are several pages of notes. Apologies if it is too much detail, I am trying to provide directions that achieve pleasing results for everyone, including newer knitters.

Techniques include knitting in the round, long-tail CO, several different decrease methods, ribbing, slipped stitches, and magic-loop or use of DPNs for closing.

I hope you enjoy, and I welcome feedback!
