Meet the Rick Rack Sweater! This 1940s inspired sweater is an adapted pattern from a Royal Society booklet originally published in 1946. The pattern has been entirely re-written for the modern knitter, but keeps the look of the original.
It has a simple but fun colorwork stripe feature, and follows the quintessential 1940s construction style with puffed sleeves and a ribbed waistband. It is a cozy knit, where you can kick back and enjoy the stockinette rounds, and just before it gets too monotonous it is time for another stripe!

The original 1946 pattern was called “The Quick Change Artist.” The concept behind the original was that this was the perfect chameleon sweater in your wardrobe that could be paired with all sorts of outfits and look like something new.

I took this notion to heart and wrote up Rick Rack to be just as versatile: this pattern can be made using fingering, sport, or DK weight yarn without making any modifications to the pattern! How’s that for versatile?!

Like always, my garment patterns use a body measurement x gauge system of pattern writing, making them fully size inclusive and tailored to your personal measurements. There are plenty of resources at Squid School to get you started on this method of pattern instruction!

This pattern (and many other vintage inspired knits) is available exclusively at Squid’s School of Vintage Knitting! Come join the fun and make your own Rick Rack sweater!
