While I have attempted to keep the suggested yarns machine-washable and child-friendly, I will admit that this yarn, with its nubs of silky color, is not. But it’s so beautiful, and so soft, and knit in a loose cable pattern to imitate the ripples a river makes as it winds its way around the rocks. So it might get drooled on a bit. Toddlers deserve beauty as much as anybody else.

The pattern also includes instructions for knitting a cowl or an earwarmer.
