This pattern is available for free.

You can make this pattern with your odds and ends of yarn, and do different color- schemes.

Also another nice thing about this pattern is that you can make it with a finer, yarn- like dk - and just make a couple more circles so it is still big enough. Just be sure to use the recommended hook with the yarn that you use.

And finally, I haven’t made one all the way (WIP) but a knitted version could also be made- CO 8 sts, K1, Yo, rep from to end, then just knit the next round. Next round, K2, Yo, rep from to end. Knit the next round. Alternate increasing 8 sts one round, then plain knitting the next until you have the circle the size you want. To make a plain circle, without holes, do any sort of increase (knit front and back, or lifted increase) instead of the yo’s.
